Playing the game is simple, requiring just a few minutes each week to select your teams from your player profile page. How much time you spend analysing the week's fixtures is up to you, but with your football knowledge, picking three winning teams from fifteen fixtures each match day should be a breeze, right?
Step 1: Sign up and create your account.
Step 2: (Optional) Read 'The Rules' on the About page and explore the League Tables, Media, and Hall of Fame pages.
Step 3: Join the WhatsApp community from the Media page. Whilst this is not compulsory, it is recommended in case you need help with your account. It is also the best way for me to inform players of enhancements, issues, updates, and gives you an opportunity to talk to other players etc...You'll be presented with two groups, Announcements and General, please join both.
Step 4: Visit your new Player Profile page, and if you like, you can add a photo along with details such as your location and the team you support. If your team isnt listed, let me know, and I'll add it.
Step 5: From your player profile, check the upcoming week's fixtures, which will be updated within 24 hours of the previous fixtures concluding. Then, simply choose the three teams you believe will win for the relevant game day. Easy!
Step 6: Repeat step 5 each week. The deadline for selections is the current game day start time (see player profile)
Note: Your selections are automatically saved by the system. When you make changes and leave your player profile page, your choices should remain intact when you return. If they donβt, please report the issue in the WhatsApp general group.
Also, once a tournament has started, only players that have selected teams for any current game day will appear in the league tables. If you arrive late, just select your teams and you will appear.
Optional: Fancy playing for money? From your player profile select "Buy-In" to enter your stake into the prize pot.
In-Game Achievements: AFL Champion, Pyramid League(s) Champion, Pyramid League(s) Promotion, AFL Top Ranked Player, AFL Galactico, AFL Winning Streak Record (see Hall of Fame).
Below is an example of a player profile (mine), with a brief description of key features as they appear on the desktop version of the website. The mobile version is optimised for smaller screen resolutions.
1. An AFL runs for six premier league match days (six consecutive English Premier League fixtures). During international breaks or FA cup weekends, we continue with League 2 + guest team fixtures.
Put simply, if its the weekend, or the premier league are playing midweek, we have a game day. Keep an eye on your player profile for the fixtures and game day start date/time.
2. Each player will select three teams for each match day from our fixture list. Fixtures will appear on the player profile page.
3. Each team can only be selected once across all six AFL game days.
4. Each team selection will earn 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, or 0 points for a loss.
5a. If a fixture involving selected teams is postponed or cancelled AFTER the selection deadline, the result from their most recent encounter at the same venue will be used. In the absence of a previous meeting, the match will be considered a draw.
5b. If a fixture involving selected teams is postponed or cancelled BEFORE the selection deadline, players should select an alternative team from the remaining fixtures. Failure to do so will result in the match being considered a draw.
6. The deadline for selections will be the kick off time of the first fixture of the AFL game day.
7. Players may play for free, or play for money.
8. Two teams from the same fixture should not be selected.
9. New players will be placed in the lowest tier of the current league pyramid.
10. A new player's AFL Ranking will be zero (0) until 18 selections are resulted.
11. Weekly Fixtures: Each week, all English Premier League fixtures along with 5 other fixtures, will be presented in the player profile for selection. During international breaks, all fixtures will be selected from EFL League 2 and National league.
12. AFL Galacticos must avoid relegation from the Elite pyramid league. If any Galactico is relegated, a new Galactico will be selected to take his or her place.
13. Winning Streak: A player can only achieve the winning streak record if the streak consists of consecutive game days without interruption and the player has participated from game day 1 in all tournaments the streak covers.
14. AFL Championship tie: If two or more players finish with the same number of points, including goal difference, the winner will be determined based on the following criteria, in order: number of wins, then least number of draws. If the players remain tied, their performance (points) on Game Day 6 will be used as the next tiebreaker, followed by performances from game days 6 and 5, and so on. If still tied, GD from game day 6 and 5, and so on will be used.
15. Winning Streak Promotion with Boost: Β£100 for the winning streak record breaker and Β£50 for the person that introduced them to the game. Condition: Boost data is purchased before the w'streak starts (in the AFL the w'streak started). If no Boost data is purchased the player will still receive Β£50.
16. The five 'other' fixtures: The Current AFL Champion will select 2 teams and each of the Galacticos 1 team to feature for the new tournament. These 5 teams will feature every game day until the tournament ends.
17. FA Cup weekends: If at least 10 fixtures cannot be found featuring teams of the same league, the game day will be postponed.
18. A winning streak is measured by counting the number of consecutive 9 point weeks. The streak ends when the player fails to register 9 points in the current game day. The number of wins in the current game day is added to the total across the streak. Goal difference is used if two players are tied. A winning streak isn't limited to a single tournament; it can span multiple tournaments.
19. In order to manage player numbers, and promote fair competition, Elite and Pro league players must participate in every AFL tournament. Non participation will result in that player making up one of the relegation spots, plus loss of AFL ranking points if a Top 5 ranked player.
20. Prize Fund: The prize fund is only paid out to the main league winner each tournament. If the winner/AFL champion is a non buy-in player, the fund will be rolled over. Mini Buy-In players will win half of the prize fund, with the remaining fund also being rolled over. Late buy in players (after GD1 and before GD4) will receive 30% of the prize fund, with the remaining being rolled over.
